Martin and Pat have a very nice landscape the builder put in but they really want to improve it with the right plants for the right place. Here are some of the plants that might work better for them.

-Ballarina Indian Hawthorn is one of the earliest hawthorns to bloom in San Antonio. It might get 4' tall in 5 years.

-Yew Podocarpus is a great plant that can be kept narrow and tall

-Pink Lady Indian Hawthorn is a mid-size variety and when it blooms it puts on a show.

-There are a dozen different selections of Pursulane to chose from. And every year they come out with new ones.

-Pink Skullcap is easy and so dependable.

-My favorite Goldsturm Daisy is one variety of Black-eyed Susan that comes back every year bigger and better.

-you like Butterflies? Plant Gregg's Mistflower. Plant it out in the open where those little guys can see it when they are passing through and you'll gets lots of them stopping to feed on those little blue flowers.

-Purple Heart Wandering Jew- yes, I know your grandmother had it in her yard...she was pretty smart and so now you need some in your yard.

-Portulaca-this is kinda like Pursulane but the flowers don't close at night.

-Red Yucca is one of the most drought resistant plants in central Texas

-Variegated Flax Lily adds color to a drab landscape.

-Silver Ponlyfoot is a low growing ground cover that might get nipped by the freeze but it always comes back

-When you add Angelonia to your landscape you have lots of choices when it comes to flower color.

-Oragne Bulbine blooms from spring into winter.

-Grayleaf Cotoneaster don't get too big and it is very well behaved.

We had talked about how slopes can cause erosion. Here's an example how one garden was terraced to prevent erosion.

One thing that people often don't consider is adding pots to the landscape. Sometimes it's by the front door, sometimes it's by the garage, and sometimes it works if you scatter them all through the landscape. I've often said, there are no rules. You can do whatever you want! And what do you put in the pot? Anything you want. Flowering plant, shrubs, topiaries...it doesn't matter. There are no rules!

So, that's where we started. If you have any questions or comments I'd love to hear them. My contact info is on the previous page. Email me, text me, call me.. I'd love to hear from you.
