Landscaping in Destin is very different from landscaping in Texas. Your soil is acidic and most of our is alkaline. So you can grow many wonderful plants we cannot. Here are some plants I would suggest for your landscape
Azaleas need an acidic soil and you have it there. Here are three different varieties: Red Ruffles, Hinocrimson, and Judge Solomon.
-Knockout Roses will work in almost any kind of soil.
-Camellias do well in sun or shade.
-Drift Roses are a dwarf shrub rose. There are about half a dozen different colors and they all bloom great. Here we have Coral and Pink. Most people shear them back each year to about a foot so they grow back to about to about 18" each year.
-Another favorite if you have acidic soil are Hydrangeas. They bloom blue, red, pink and the white varieties are very popular also.
-If you have Blue Hydrangeas it means you fertilized them just right.
-White by the Gate Camellias are a favorite throughout the south.
-Giant Leopard Plant have huge round leaves and they blooms in December and it loves the shade.
I can't tell you how many varieties of Hostas there are but they sure do brighten up a landscape whether they are green, blue or variegated.
-Lantanas come in a variety of colors and growth habits. This one is a trailing yellow
-Blue Plumbago freezes back every year but returns when it gets warm.
-Ixora is a tropical plant and you can find it with yellow, orange and red flowers.s
-Wheeler's Dwarf Pittosporum is a great plant that stays small.
-Variegated Ginger likes the shade and has big leaves.
-Variegated Flax Lily also has colorful leaves.
-Holly Fern is one of the few evergreen ferns for this area.
-Gold Dust Aucuba is an evergreen shrub that does well in the shade.
-Springtime Indian Hawthorne blooms in the spring and matures about 4'-5' tall.
-Dwarf Burford Holly is a great plant for hedges. It's easy to maintain about 3'-5' tall.
-Enchantress is a dwarf Indian Hawthorne that is easy to maintain in the 3'-4' height range.
